**Safety Alerts are currently only available in the following countries: Canada, China, and United States
With safety features enabled on your COROS DURA, you can send SOS alerts to emergency contacts when tracking an outdoor activity.
Setting Up Safety Alerts
Caution: COROS safety features do not contact local emergency services on your behalf and should not be relied upon as the primary way to get emergency help. COROS safety features only notify the contact(s) you have listed in the Safety Alerts section of your COROS app.
In order to use COROS safety features to work, your phone and DURA must be nearby, connected via Bluetooth, with the COROS app running in the background. In order to notify emergency contacts, your phone must also be connected to cell service.
At least one emergency contact needs to be created before you can use safety features. To do so, open your COROS app to the Profile page and select Safety Alerts.
You can select an existing contact from your phone's contact list, or add one manually. Emergency contacts will be notified via email (with a live tracking link when an activity is started) and text (when a safety alert is triggered).
When you begin tracking an outdoor activity, an email will be sent to your emergency contact(s) with a live tracking link so they can follow along with your movement.
Using Safety Alerts
If you are in a situation where you need to send an SOS to your emergency contact, simply press and hold the dial on your COROS DURA for 7 seconds.
Once the button is pressed, you will be prompted to confirm the SOS alert. Press the dial again to trigger the alert. Your emergency contact will then receive a notification with your current latitude and longitude coordinates. By clicking the link in the SOS message, they can view your current location and directions to reach you. If you move locations, your emergency contact can follow along via the link sent in the message.
Once the Safety Alert is triggered, DURA will continue to track your movements via GPS, but other activity functions are suspended.
To end the Safety Alert, press the dial once, then scroll down to confirm. This will send an email to your emergency contact letting them know you are safe.
Using Crash Detection
In order to use Crash Detection features on DURA, you will need to set up Safety Alerts with the same process listed above. Once your emergency contacts have been added, from the Safety Alerts page in the COROS app, scroll down and toggle "DURA crash detection" ON.
Using built-in sensors, DURA can detect when a very abrupt stop has been made, and will automatically send a safety alert to your emergency contact(s). Phone/app and cellular connection is required to send the alert.
Once the alert is automatically triggered, there will be a 10-second countdown, during which you can manually turn off the request for assistance. If the alert is not disabled, after 10 seconds, an email or text message notification will be automatically sent to your emergency contact(s).
FAQs
To prevent notification fatigue, not all notifications will be sent via text. Text messages are reserved for the most urgent notifications (when you initiate a Safety Alert) because texts are more likely to get someone's immediate attention, whereas an email is not as disruptive and is only used for the initial, tracking information.
- Email: When you begin tracking a new outdoor activity, your emergency contact will receive an email with a live tracking link to follow along with your movement. Your contact will also receive an email if you end a Safety Alert.
- Text message: If you initiate a Safety Alert, your emergency contact will receive a text with your current location and a live tracking link to follow your movement. Ending a Safety Alert will send an email, not a text message.
No. A notification is only sent when an activity is first started, but not when it is ended. If the emergency contact opens the link that was initially sent, and you have already finished the activity, they will see a message "activity has ended" at the bottom of the location sharing page.
No. All normal activity functions are paused while a Safety Alert is triggered. DURA will not track any activity data, but will use GPS to track your current coordinates so your emergency contact(s) can follow your movement. If you end the Safety Alert, you can resume your activity as normal.
There is no limit to the number of email notifications sent to your emergency contact(s).
If you are located in the United States, Canada, or China, if you initiate a Safety Alert, a text message is only sent once within a period of 10 minutes. A maximum of 5 text messages can be sent for the same user in one day. If this limit is exceeded, no text messages will be sent.
