COROS Support Update: Watch Bands and PFAS "Forever Chemicals"

We understand that recent studies have uncovered PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, otherwise known as "Forever Chemicals") in specific smartwatch bands, and wish to clarify how this relates to COROS Wearables and the products we release to our community.

The smartwatch bands mentioned in these studies are made from "fluoro rubber," which is a material known to contain these specific "forever chemicals." By comparison, COROS watch bands are made from silicone, which does not include PFAS. Silicone is not only safe to use, but is also durable and comfortable enough to be worn for long durations—key reasons why we chose it for our products.

Nylon Watch Bands (Polyester/Synthetic Fiber)

Our nylon bands (specifically the Webbing 67TTA 1318 series) have undergone comprehensive chemical analysis as of January 2025. These bands are classified as synthetic fabric and are tested for both adult and "baby-grade" safety standards.

PFAS Testing Results

The nylon material was specifically tested for Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) content. The testing utilized solvent extraction followed by Liquid Chromatographic-Tandem Mass Spectrometric (LC-MS-MS) and Gas Chromatographic-Mass Spectrometric (GC-MS) analysis to detect even trace amounts of these chemicals.

Result: Pass.

Total PFAS Substances Screened: Over 320 individual PFAS-related substances were screened, including PFOA, PFOS, PFBA, and various fluorotelomers.

Detection: All tested PFAS substances were Not Detected (ND).

Additional Safety Standards

Beyond PFAS, our nylon bands are tested for a wide array of other restricted substances to ensure skin-contact safety:

  • Formaldehyde: Not Detected (ND).
  • pH Value: Tested at 6.1, which falls well within the safe limits for both "Baby" (4.0–7.5) and "Non-Baby" (4.0–8.5) skin contact.
  • Extractable Heavy Metals: All metals, including Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium, were either Not Applicable or Not Detected (ND).
  • Allergenous Disperse Dyes: Not Detected (ND).
  • Bisphenol-A (BPA): Not Detected (ND).
