Improving Backlight and Screen Visibility

Note: The following information applies to COROS watches equipped with MIP (Memory in Pixel) screens. For tips on customizing display settings for AMOLED screens (PACE 4 and PACE Pro), please see this article.

Backlight

The backlight on your COROS watch is activated any time you raise your wrist or operate the buttons.  Although the brightness level cannot be modified, you can adjust Gesture Backlight settings.

For optimal battery performance, we recommend limiting backlight usage by going to the main watch menu > System > More Settings > Gesture Backlight > OFF.

Screen visibility

Due to the nature of the Memory in Pixel (MiP) screen used on COROS watches, the visibility is the best when used in outdoor environments under direct sunlight. The stronger the sunlight is, the better the screen visibility is. We recommend adjusting the following settings to enhance visibility during workouts:

  • Utilize white backgrounds on your activity data pages. Go to System > Activity Interface > Background Color > White.
  • Increase the font size for your activity data pages. Certain watch models support a Large font size option specifically for activities (available on PACE 2, VERTIX 1, APEX 42, and APEX 46). To customize this setting, go to System > Activity Interface > Font Size.
  • Use 1 or 2 frames for your data pages. Open the COROS app to the Profile page, select your watch, and select Activity Settings to customize your data pages. We recommend using just 1 or 2 metrics per data pages for the best visibility.
  • Turn on Night Mode for low brightness level always-on backlight. Once activated, the mode will last till the next sunrise. From the main watch face, or while tracking an activity, long press the Back button > from the Toolbox menu, scroll to the Control Center > select Night Mode > ON.

Please note, the APEX/APEX Pro/APEX 2/APEX 2 Pro/VERTIX/VERTIX 2/VERTIX 2S are equipped with more durable and scratch-resistant sapphire glass. Due to the nature of the sapphire material, the visibility is slightly affected compared with other less durable screen materials.  VERTIX may also have a slightly dimmer screen than the other COROS models due to the diamond-like coating on the screen that provides increased durability and scratch resistance.
