Learn how to set up, customize, and track your fishing trips on your COROS watch, including recording catches, environmental data, and sharing your results.
Set up Environments and custom data pages
Before you go fishing, you can set up Environments and custom activity data pages ahead of time in the COROS app.
Environments: Open your COROS app to the Profile page, and scroll down to Environments. You can choose up to 5 unique locations. For each location, you will be able view its environmental conditions such as temperature, precipitation, tide data, sun/moon information, wind, and air pressure.
Specific environmental conditions are viewable both in the COROS app and on your watch. On your watch, simply scroll down from the main watch face to the Environments widget, so you can easily check conditions (like tide and weather) from before you leave. Tidal conditions are available if you are located within 100 km/60 miles of a tidal source.
Custom Data Pages: In the COROS app, go to Profile page, select your watch, and open Activity Settings. Choose the fishing mode you wish to customize, and then add or rearrange data pages to display time, heart rate, calories, and environmental data. Each activity will need to be customized separately. Customization of Data Pages will not be applied across multiple fishing modes. Learn more about customizing activity data pages here.
Start tracking your fishing activity
On your watch, open the main activity menu and scroll with the dial to your desired fishing mode. Press the dial to select. Before pressing Start, you can scroll down and customize the following options for each fishing mode:
- Shortcuts menu (available on COROS NOMAD): Customize your Action and Back buttons within Shortcuts, so you can record Voice Pins or jump to the map view with just the press of a button.
-
Navigation: Choose one of your pre-synced routes to follow. Routes can be synced to your watch both during and outside of activities from the Explore page in the COROS app.
- Open the COROS app to the Explore page
- Open the Route Library icon in the top right corner of the screen
- Select a route, then click "Sync with your device" at the bottom of the page
On the Start screen, wait for the GPS and heart rate icons to become solid, indicating a full signal. Then press the dial once to begin tracking. While your session is being tracked, your watch will automatically capture heart rate data, calories, and elevation (in Shore Fishing and Shore Fly Fishing modes).
Your watch automatically recognizes distinct wrist and arm movements, differentiating fishing actions from general movement (such as walking or boating between spots). This enables it to accurately track Fishing Time versus Moving Time.
To pause the activity, press the dial at any time. While paused, you can scroll down and select Finish to finish and save your activity.
Record catches and Voice Pins
Record details about your session in real-time by using COROS NOMAD's Action Button (if it is configured to Add a Pin), or on other watches, by long-pressing the Back button to open the toolbox menu.
Recording catches: From the toolbox menu, open the Pin widget, then scroll down to Catch. (Here you can also leave a voice note on COROS NOMAD to save the weight and length of your catch.) Once saved, head to the first page in the COROS app and open Extender to view your new Pin. Select the Pin to edit the details about your catch, including adding a photo or typing additional notes. Depending on the strength of the cellular connection, your Pin may be updated immediately, or it may be synced later when your phone receives better cell service.
Recording Voice Pins and marking locations: Open the Pin widget from the toolbox menu, and select from one of the Pin options to leave a Voice Pin, structure, reef, and more. Your Pins are viewable in Extender and can be edited in real-time, or later from your activity summary. (Voice Pins are available directly on COROS NOMAD, or on the COROS app for other watch models by selecting the Pin icon within Extender.)
Location Lock: Location Lock allows you to pick your current or a nearby location for your watch to lock you in on. If you drift outside of this area, your watch will alert you so you can re-enter the area you wish to remain locked in. You can access Location Lock from the toolbox menu, or from the map page by pressing the dial once and scrolling to Location Lock.
Review your data
Press the dial once to pause your activity, then scroll down to Finish. Once your activity is saved, you can view a detailed summary in your COROS app.
Your GPS track and any saved catches and pins are located at the top. Select any pin to edit the details. Click the Sync Media button on the right side of the screen to add more photos and videos you may have taken during the activity.
Your fishing and moving time are shown below, along with graphs for heart rate, tide level, barometer, and more. Some environmental data (such as elevation) are specific to certain fishing modes and may not be visible in others.
To share your data with friends and family, click the share icon in the top right corner of the activity summary page. Choose from a data overlay or a 3D flyover video, and customize how your stats, images, and map are displayed for social media and sharing.
Which fishing mode should I choose?
COROS NOMAD, VERTIX 2, and VERTIX 2S offer 7 different fishing modes. While the overall data tracked in each mode is similar, the default data pages and algorithm differs between each mode. We recommend using the one that most closely matches your activity.
