Optimizing Battery Usage: Identifying Features That Drain Power

Our advertised battery life is based on standard usage and confirmed by many users in real life, but we also feel it is important to let our community know what features typically cause the most battery drain.

In order, here is a list of the features that have the largest impact on the battery life of COROS watches.

  1. Vibrations and tones
  2. Backlight
  3. Weak or lost GPS signal during outdoor activities
  4. Satellite mode used
  5. Accessory connections (heart rate straps, external sensors, broadcasting heart rate)
  6. Built-in sensors like heart rate and barometer
  7. Navigation
  8. Daily Stress feature

How to adjust your device settings to conserve battery life

In summary, any combination of the features listed above can contribute to unexpected battery consumption. If you are in a situation where battery performance becomes critical, we recommend adjusting these features or turning them off when applicable.

  1. Disable vibrations and tones: Go to System > More Settings > Vibrations/Tones > OFF.
  2. Adjust backlight settings:
    • Go to System > More Settings > Gesture Backlight/Backlight > OFF.
    • For PACE 4 and PACE Pro, go to System > More Settings > Display > Brightness > choose Standard.
  3. Disable Always-On Display: On PACE 4 and PACE Pro, go to System > More Settings > Display > Always On. Toggle this OFF for both standby mode and activity use.
  4. Disable activity alerts: Go to the intended activity mode on your watch > scroll down to Activity Alerts > OFF.
  5. Minimize heart rate readings: Reduce the frequency of monitoring heart rate in standby mode by going to System > Sensors > Optical Heart Rate > Daily Heart Rate > select "Every 10 minutes."
    • In some cases, you may wish to disable heart rate monitoring entirely. This can be done specifically for activity tracking by going to System > Sensors > Optical Heart Rate > Workout Heart Rate > OFF. Please note, certain fitness metrics like Training Load cannot be calculated without heart rate data present.
  6. Minimize Bluetooth connections: Turn off your phone's Bluetooth to disable the active connection between your COROS watch and phone. Avoid pairing the watch to any external sensors or accessories when possible.
  7. Minimize navigation and map usage: If you don't need to follow a route or view the map page, end your current navigation or toggle away from the map page to your regular data pages to conserve battery life.
  8. Use a more battery-friendly satellite mode: Go to System > More Settings > Satellite Systems to select a new satellite mode.
    • PACE 3, APEX 2/2 Pro, VERTIX 2, VERTIX 2S, DURA: Use Standard GPS mode
    • PACE 4, PACE Pro, NOMAD, APEX 4: Use All Systems On / "High" GPS mode
    • APEX 42, APEX 46, APEX Pro 1, VERTIX 1, PACE 2: Use GPS Only mode
  9. Use Night Mode when necessary: if you're training or racing in the dark and need to view your watch screen often, you can enable Night Mode on select COROS watches. Night Mode keeps the backlight on for the duration of your activity, but at a slightly dimmer level than normal. To enable this mode, long press the back button to open the toolbox menu and scroll to the Control Center, then select Night Mode.
  10. Disable Daily Stress feature: Go to System → More Settings → Stress > OFF.
