COROS Wearables Law Enforcement Request Guidelines

These guidelines are provided for official law enforcement and government agencies seeking data from COROS Wearables, Inc. ("COROS"). COROS is committed to protecting user privacy while fulfilling valid legal obligations under applicable federal, state, and international law.

1. General Principles & Privacy Commitments

• Probable Cause Warrant Requirement: COROS requires a valid search warrant issued by a judge or magistrate upon a showing of probable cause under applicable federal or state law (e.g., Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or equivalent statutory authority) before disclosing non-public user content. Content includes workout histories, GPS/location tracks, communications, and biometric or health records.
• Prior User Notification: COROS's policy is to notify users and provide a copy of the legal demand prior to disclosing any account data, allowing the user an opportunity to seek legal counsel or contest the request in court.
• Exceptions: COROS will only withhold notice if legally prohibited by a court order (such as a non-disclosure order under 18 U.S.C. § 2705(b)) or in rare exigent emergency situations involving an immediate threat of death or serious physical injury.
• Bulk Data Requests: COROS rejects and challenges overbroad, dragnet, or warrantless bulk data requests.

2. Legal Process Requirements

COROS processes government demands in accordance with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), 18 U.S.C. § 2701 et seq., and applicable laws:

3. Preservation Requests (18 U.S.C. § 2703(f))

Law enforcement agencies may request the temporary preservation of a user’s account records pending the issuance of a formal search warrant or court order.

• Standard Duration: COROS will preserve a temporary snapshot of the specified account records for 90 days upon receipt of a valid § 2703(f) request.
• Extensions: Preservation may be extended for an additional 90-day period (for a maximum total of 180 days) upon receipt of an official renewal request prior to the expiration of the initial period.
• Scope: Preservation is a "one-time snapshot" of existing records at the time the request is received. It does not provide real-time monitoring or ongoing surveillance. If a legal order is not received within the preservation window, the preserved records are permanently deleted.

4. Emergency Requests

COROS evaluates emergency data requests on a case-by-case basis. We may disclose subscriber records or content without formal legal process only if we have a good-faith belief that an emergency involving imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to any person requires immediate disclosure.

Emergency requests must be submitted by a sworn law enforcement officer and contain:
1.  The nature of the emergency and immediate threat.
2. The identity of the individual at risk.
3. The specific COROS account identifiers (email address or device serial number).
4. An explanation of why standard legal process cannot be obtained in time.

All legal demands, preservation requests, and emergency notices must be issued on official agency letterhead and submitted to COROS legal counsel via email or mail:
