Open water distance tracking
To ensure the most accurate distance tracking, COROS watches only support Freestyle stroke type in open water swim mode. Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly strokes are not supported because the watch will remain underwater too long, significantly reducing the GPS accuracy necessary for outdoor tracking.
For best results, please wait before pressing Start until you receive a confirmation from the watch that GPS has been fully acquired. Once the watch is ready, you can press Start and enter the water for your swim.
While swimming, keep your strokes as steady as possible. The hand that is wearing your watch should remain out of water for some time with each stroke to ensure that the watch regains GPS signal. Each time your hand enters the water again, the watch will lose GPS, since GPS signals cannot travel underwater.
If you are resting or stopped anytime during the open water swim, make sure to keep the hand that is wearing your watch at or above the surface of the water to allow the watch to maintain a strong GPS signal.
You can also place your watch in a swimming cap or on a buoy to receive an accurate GPS track, but you may not receive heart rate or stroke data.
