With Pool Swim mode, track your swim workouts and swim drills in any size lap pool. COROS watches automatically detect four major stroke types: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly.
How to Use Pool Swim Mode
1. Select the correct pool length to ensure accurate distance tracking. Before pressing Start, scroll down to Pool Length and choose from the following options:
- 25 yards/meters
- 50 yards/meters
- 33.3 yards/meters
- Custom length
2. Press the Back/Lap button to start and end a set. If your watch detects that you are resting and your arm/wrist is not making any substantial movements, an automatic Rest interval will be recorded. However, you can also manually press the Back/Lap button on your watch to record a manual interval. This will ensure your swim session is broken down into separate sets, so you can easily view them in the activity summary of your COROS app. Note: Pressing the dial to pause your swim will not differentiate between sets.
For example, if you are swimming a 200 meter warmup, you can press the Back/Lap button after 200 meters. The watch will automatically enter a Rest phase while you are resting at the side of the pool. Then when you're ready to start the next swim set, press the Back/Lap button again to resume tracking.
3. Use flip turns to ensure accurate distance tracking. If you don’t use a flip turn, please make sure to include arm movements that are substantially different than stroke movements during the turn, and complete the turn as quickly as possible.
4. Pause the watch to switch between regular swim and Drill mode. Pressing the dial will pause your activity, and you can then scroll down to Mode to switch between regular swim tracking and Drill mode. Drills cannot be tracked in regular swim mode. To learn more about this setting, click here.
5. Set up structured workouts. You can set up interval workouts, including send-off intervals, ahead of time directly on your COROS watch or in the COROS app. Learn how to do so by clicking here.

FAQs About Pool Swim Mode
Distance and pace in Pool Swim mode is calculated with the watch's internal compass, which detects when you make a turn at the wall. We recommend using flip turns for best results, but if you use wall touches instead, please make sure to include arm movements that are substantially different than stroke movements during the turn, and complete the turn as quickly as possible.
Calibrating your watch's compass can help fix any turn/distance recognition issues in pool swims. To calibrate the compass, long press the Back button from the main watch face and scroll through the Toolbox menu to the Compass widget. Select Calibrate and follow the instructions on the watch screen.
Your COROS watch will automatically detect four major stroke types: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. Other stroke types are not supported, and any distance covered during drills and kick sets are not measured unless you manually enter Drill mode on the watch.

Your watch does not detect drill sets automatically. To track your drill sets (including kick sets, single-arm drills, pull buoy, and others), follow these steps:
- At any point while tracking a Pool Swim activity, press the dial to pause the activity.
- Scroll down and select Mode to switch between regular swim and Drills.
- Choose Drills, then scroll back up to Resume the activity.
- After resuming, you can complete multiple types of drills by pressing the Lap button in between each set. The watch will prompt you to select a distance for the completed drill (or select 0 distance / Stationary if you remained at the wall).
- Once your drills are completed, press the dial to pause the activity again.
- Scroll down to Mode and select regular swim. You can then resume the activity and continue swimming.
Learn more about using drill mode here.
The Rest screen is not customizable, and will display the following metrics by default: Current rest time, Last Lap distance, Last Lap time, Last Lap pace, and current heart rate. However, you are able to customize the other data pages that you see while actively swimming. Click here to learn how to customize these pages.
