Distance and pace in Pool Swim mode are calculated with the watch's internal compass, which detects when you make a turn at the wall. Your COROS watch will automatically detect four major stroke types: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly.
Tips for tracking your Pool Swim sessions
1. Select the correct pool length to ensure accurate distance tracking. Before pressing Start, scroll down to Pool Length and choose from the following options:
- 25 meters
- 50 meters
- 25 yards
- 33.3 meters
- 33.3 yards
- Custom
2. Press the Back/Lap button to start and end a set. This will ensure your swim session is broken down into separate sets, so you can easily view them in the activity summary of your COROS app. (Simply pausing the watch will not differentiate between sets.)
For example, if you are swimming a 200 meter warmup, you can press the Back/Lap button after 200 meters. The watch will automatically enter a Rest phase while you are resting at the side of the pool. Then when you're ready to start the next swim set, press the Back/Lap button again to resume tracking.
3. Use flip turns to ensure accurate distance tracking. If you don’t use a flip turn, please make sure to include arm movements that are substantially different than stroke movements during the turn, and complete the turn as quickly as possible.
4. Pause the watch to switch between regular swim and Drill modes. Pressing the dial will pause your activity, and you can then scroll down to Mode to switch between regular swim tracking and Drill mode. Drills cannot be tracked in regular swim mode. To learn more about this setting, click here.
5. Set up structured workouts. You can set up interval workouts, including send-off intervals, ahead of time directly on your COROS watch or in the COROS app. Learn how to do so by clicking here.

How can I fix inaccurate distance/pace issues?
Distance and pace in Pool Swim mode is calculated with the watch's internal compass, which detects when you make a turn at the wall. We recommend using flip turns for best results, but if you use wall touches instead, please make sure to include arm movements that are substantially different than stroke movements during the turn, and complete the turn as quickly as possible.
Calibrating your watch's compass can help fix any turn/distance recognition issues in pool swims. To calibrate the compass, long press the Back button from the main watch face and scroll through the Toolbox menu to the Compass widget. Select Calibrate and follow the instructions on the watch screen.
Your COROS watch will automatically detect four major stroke types: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. Other stroke types are not supported, and any distance covered during drills and kick sets are not calculated unless you manually enter Drill mode on the watch.
COROS pool swimming tracking algorithms are equipped with machine learning mechanism. Please make sure that your strokes and turns are as standard as possible for the whole activity. If you change stroke types before making a turn, the watch may miss count or double count the distance.
