DURA supports pairing to Garmin Varia radar light via ANT+ to alert you of approaching traffic. To pair with your Varia light, follow the steps below:
- From the main menu, scroll to System > Accessories > Add Accessories. DURA will begin searching for nearby ANT+ devices.
- Make sure Garmin Varia is powered off. Then, press and hold the device button for 2 seconds. A purple light will begin flashing, indicating Varia is in pairing mode.
- When the Varia appears as a nearby tail light, select it on DURA screen to complete the pairing process.
With your Varia paired, you can customize the following settings directly on DURA:
- Tones > ON or OFF. When tones are toggled ON, DURA will alert you at the following times:
- Three beeps: when Varia detects that traffic is approaching at high speed
- Two beeps: when Varia detects that traffic is approaching at normal speed
- One beep: when Varia detects traffic has safely passed
- Check your Varia battery level
- Check your Varia software version
Using DURA and Varia during a ride
Once your Varia and DURA are paired, they will connect each time you record a ride. On the start page of your selected bike mode, make sure the small radar light icon stops flashing and turns solid (indicating a full connection) before pressing Start.
During your ride, a small radar light icon is displayed in the top left corner of all your data pages. When Varia detects that traffic is approaching, DURA will alert you both visually and audibly, via a sidebar overlayed on the left side of the screen along with tones to indicate the threat of oncoming traffic.
- Red sidebar and three beeps: Traffic is approaching at high speed
- Yellow sidebar and two beeps: Traffic is approaching at normal speed
- Green sidebar and one beep: Traffic has safely passed
Tones can be disabled by going to Accessories > Varia tail light > Tones > OFF. This does not impact the visual cues from Varia that appear on DURA screen.
How can I view the battery level of my connected radar light?
View the battery level of your connected radar light by going to System > Accessories > select your device.
You can also view the battery level in real time during activities. To do so, set up your DURA data pages ahead of time. See our article Customizing Activity Data Pages on DURA for detailed instructions on how to do so.
