Preview climb information in your COROS app, and get notified of upcoming climbs in real time on your device, so you always know what's coming and can pace yourself accordingly.
Overview
You can view upcoming climbs and receive climb alerts in several ways:
- Preview climb details in the app. When you create or import a route in the COROS app, select the Hill Segments menu to see the details of climb along the route.
- See upcoming climbs during your ride. While following a route on DURA or DURA 2 SOLAR, an extra page is added that shows the elevation profile and details of each remaining climb along the route.
- Get climb alerts during your ride. While following a route on DURA or DURA 2 SOLAR that has significant elevation changes, you'll be notified of upcoming climbs and see your progress along each climb.
- Get routeless climb detection (available on DURA 2 SOLAR only). Download offline navigation files to see nearby climbs and your current progress along a climb on the Map page - no need to follow a pre-made route.
View Climb Details in Advance
When you import a route to your COROS app or create a route in the Explore page, the route will automatically include climb details, if significant elevation changes are detected. While viewing the route in the app, select the Hill Segments menu to view the details of each climb along the route.
Depending on the distance and slope of each section, your route will be separated into major climbs. Each climb is color-coded to give you an idea of the easier (yellow) and harder (dark red) sections, with green indicating a flat or downhill section. The difficulty of climbs is calculated based on a combination of distance and slope. You can click through the various climbs to view this information in more detail.
On DURA and DURA 2 SOLAR, open the Navigation menu from the home screen and select a route. Scroll down to Climb to preview details for each of the upcoming climbs along the route. You can also see these details in the middle of your ride - an extra data page is automatically added so you can see what's ahead.
Real-Time Climb Alerts (with a route)
When following a route that has significant elevation changes, DURA and DURA 2 SOLAR will give you real-time alerts and progress updates. Here's how it works:
- Create or import a route. Build a route in the Explore page of the COROS app, or download one from a third-party source. COROS will automatically identify and segment any significant climbs and descents along the way.
- Sync the route to your DURA. In the COROS app, go to the Explore page, open your Route Library, select a route, and tap "Sync with device" to send it to DURA/DURA 2 SOLAR.
- Start navigating. From the home page on DURA/DURA 2 SOLAR, scroll down to Navigation and choose a route to begin.
While following a route, DURA and DURA 2 SOLAR will display the following information:
- Starting a climb: On-screen alert that shows the distance, average grade, and climb number (for example, climb 2 out of 6 for the current route)
- During a climb: Current grade, remaining distance to the top of the climb, remaining elevation gain to the top of the climb, and your current location along the climb's elevation profile
- Finishing a climb: On-screen alert that shows the total time, average grade, total elevation gain for the climb, climb distance, and climb number
Routeless Climb Detection
*This feature is only available on DURA 2 SOLAR.
With offline navigation files downloaded, you can view climb information without following a route. Here's how it works:
- Download offline navigation files. Open the COROS app to the Profile page and scroll down to Offline Navigation. Select the map areas you wish to download.
- Start an outdoor ride. Track any outdoor ride on DURA 2 SOLAR.
-
View nearby climbs on the Map page. As you ride, scroll to the Map page to see nearby climbs and their classification. Easier climbs are marked with L1, and harder climbs with L4.
- L1: 3% - 6% grade
- L2: 6% - 9% grade
- L3: 9% - 12% grade
- L4: > 12% grade
- See your progress along a climb while viewing the Map page. If you're currently riding on an identified climb, scroll to the Map page to see the elevation profile, remaining elevation gain to the top, and remaining distance to the top.
Customize Data Pages
While using navigation, the Map page will always display the route you're following, but you can also customize your activity data pages to show an elevation chart or upcoming turn indicators.
Open the COROS app to the Profile page, select your DURA or DURA 2 SOLAR, then choose Activity Settings. Select a bike profile, then select the data page you wish to edit.
- Elevation chart: Select the "Dist. and Elev." menu on the left side, then scroll down to the Elevation Chart. This will display the elevation profile of your current ride in real-time. If you're not following a route, you can see your progress up to the current point; while using navigation, you can also see any immediate upcoming climbs. The Elevation Chart is available within specific layouts, so you can view other data fields alongside it.
- Turn by turn: Set one of your data fields to be a Turn by Turn indicator. Unlike the turn alerts you receive while following a route, which are only displayed temporarily while you're a short distance away from the upcoming turn, the Turn by Turn data field will always display the upcoming turn indicator and the distance remaining to the turn. You can find this metric by selecting the "Navigation" menu on the left side of the customization options.
Note: The data fields on the default navigation and climb pages (for example, the distance to destination metric) cannot be edited.
